President Bill Clinton famously won both allies and enemies by using polling heavily in his decision-making process while in the White House.
Could President Donald Trump be doing the same thing using engagement on Twitter?
Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway suggested as much on Wednesday while discussing the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh.
Pressed by Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer on how the American people are reacting to Kavanaugh—polls show he is historically unpopular with voters—Conway pointed to the number of 'likes' on President Trump's tweets about Kavanaugh to show that he enjoys the support of the people who matter to the president.
"Speaking of polling... If you look at the president's tweet from last Thursday, after Judge Kavanaugh testified, he got over 300,000 likes within 24 hours," Conway said. "That's a lot of likes for a presidential tweet."
Conway also pointed to Fox News ratings.
"Your own primetime lineup on that same night, Thursday following that historic testimony, you had 5.8, 5.3 million viewers on those primetime lineup shows—so that tells me that the president focusing on the Supreme Court, and that folks who care about the Supreme Court, are very focused on what happens here," she said.
