MSNBC reporter Garrett Haake on Friday seemed to be over and done with Maine Republican Senator Susan Collins' "will-she-or-won't-she" schtick, as Americans waited for her 3:00 pm announcement about how she would vote on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
"Susan Collins would be, if a yes vote, essentially gets Republicans where they need to be, at least 50 votes in favor of Judge Brett Kavanaugh," said Haake.
"So as much as I think she's tired of being in this position of being such a deciding vote on so many issues, here we are again awaiting her 3:00 p.m. announcement of which way she's going to go," he added. Collins has a long history of waiting til the last minute to cast a vote, a move that many see as grandstanding, and one which infuriates both her supporters and detractors.
In one example, after much public posturing, Collins voted against repealing the Affordable Care Act, blocking a long-held goal of her party. In another example, again following a long period of hemming and hawing, Collins voted to confirm torture mastermind Gina Haspel to lead the CIA.
"So it's sort of like 'nothing matters and everything matters'," Haake said. "And it doesn't mean nothing."
