MSNBC’s Eddie Glaude unloads on Trump’s ‘P.T. Barnum’ rallies: ‘It’s a circus' that distracts you from his cruelty

Reviewing President Trump's Monday night rally in Tennessee, where he highlighted his trade deal with Canada and Mexico, MSNBC's Eddie Glaude could barely contain himself, comparing the president to P.T. Barnum and his rallies to a circus.

"He needed to calm Tennesseans when it comes to trade," said panelist Elise Jordan by way of explanation. "Donald Trump has been unnerving some of his strongest supporters who really are dependent on agriculture for their livelihoods."

"He's the P.T. Barnum of American politics," objected Glaude. "This is what he does."

"But people went to the circus," host Stephanie Ruhle pointed out. "While it may be a circus and when you look under the hood, when you say tough on immigration, do you know what's happening to migrant children? When he just goes with that top line, it sounds pretty good at a rally."

"We go to the circus and we don't pay attention to the cruelty that happens to the animals," said Glaude in a blunt comparison to the Trump administration's policy of separating immigrant children from their parents and putting them in cages.
