Political strategist Cornell Belcher told MSNBC's Hallie Jackson on Wednesday that Trump, the "accidental president", has shrunk his party's base to the point that if the GOP loses suburban women "they're all done."

Noting that Trump has only been holding rallies in states he won in 2016, Jackson asked her panel if "preaching to people who already are part of his choir" would be an effective strategy. Washington Post reporter Ashley Parker replied that the president was trying to "relive the magic" of the 2016 election.

Belcher piggybacked on the remark and pointed out that the president and his party were in big trouble.

"The president is an accidental president," Belcher said, adding that Trump didn't win majorities in the two bellwether states of Florida and Pennsylvania. "He's arguably shrank the Republican party."

"The Republicans need moderate voters especially in the suburbs of Pennsylvania," Belcher added. "If those moderate suburban women turn against him, the Republicans are done."
