CNN's Gloria Borger on Cohen: 'Somebody who said he would take a bullet for Trump is now pointing the gun at him'

CNN contributor Gloria Borger on Thursday pointed out the irony of Michael Cohen implicating President Donald Trump for possible collusion with Russia.

On Thursday afternoon, Borger reacted to the news that Cohen has a cooperation deal with special counsel Robert Mueller. Cohen, on Thursday, also pleaded guilty to making false statements to Congress about links between the Trump campaign and Russia.

"It's the tip of the iceberg," Borger explained. "Over those 70 hours [of interviews with the special counsel's office], they clearly discussed a lot of topics and these are all topics that could be potentially damaging to the president, particularly since -- the time of this is interesting -- which is, the president has already filled out his interrogatories that he got from Bob Mueller's office."

"You have to assume that some of these other topics [that Cohen discussed] were included in the questions [Trump answered]," she added.

Borger later noted that there had been a "split" between Trump and Cohen, who were once close.

"At one point, the president invited Michael Cohen to Mar-a-Lago after the Stormy Daniels case," she recalled. "You know, 'He's my good friend, he's my personal lawyer,' and suddenly, today, we hear [Trump call Cohen] weak and a liar."

"It's Shakespearian because somebody who said he would take a bullet for Donald Trump is now pointing the gun at him," Borger observed. "This is got to unravel to a great degree because we don't know what was in those 70 hours [of Cohen's discussions with the special counsel.]"
