CNN's Poppy Harlow wondered on Thursday if Michael Cohen's new guilty plea to charges of lying to Congress indicates that a cooperation agreement with special counsel Robert Mueller is in the works.
"Yes, [Cohen] pled guilty to those eight counts, but he has not had a cooperation agreement with prosecutors in the southern district. Do we know if that changes today?" Harlow asked, noting that Cohen faced up to 5 years in federal prison. "Is this a cooperation agreement?"
"We're waiting to find out," replied reporter Pamela Brown, noting that currently "there is no cooperation agreement between Michael Cohen and Robert Mueller's team, even though Cohen has spent a significant time talking to Robert Mueller's team about the Russia investigation."
"It's significant and unusual for this to happen, for this turn of events before someone is sentenced," Brown continued. "So the question is what role did Robert Mueller's team (play) in this and how will this impact moving forward? And will it shed any light on the testimony that Michael Cohen has been giving to Robert Mueller's team, how helpful has it has been as it pertains to the president?"
