Rev. Al Carlisle of Grace of God Church in New Port Richey, Florida put a sign outside of the churches polling place that said, "Don't vote Democrat on Tuesday and sing 'oh how I love Jesus' on Sunday."
When asked about the sign he said he wasn't trying to discourage voters. The sign is just outside the 100-foot perimeter where campaigning is banned at polling locations.
“I’m not saying don’t [vote Democrat],” he said. “I’m saying don’t be a contradiction.”
Even though the sign received over 75 complaints, County Supervisor of Elections Brian Corley said he is not able to remove it because it is on private property.
“I asked him politely if he’d remove it, but he began to lecture me. I explained to him it’s not a religious discussion. We will not use the facility again," Corley said.
Carlisle said that if people have a problem with his sign that they should take it up with God and not him.
