The House Intelligence Committee and the FBI are investigating George Papadopoulos -- who is currently incarcerated for lying to the FBI -- on further charges that could implicate President Donald Trump, The Atlantic reported Wednesday.
An individual claiming to have been close to Papadopoulos in 2016 and 2017, sent a letter to Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) on November 19. Schiff is expected to chair the House Intelligence Committee when Democrats take control of the chamber in January.
Following the November 2016 election, Papadopoulos said he was “doing a business deal with Russians which would result in large financial gains for himself and Mr. Trump.”
Also according to the letter, obtained by The Atlantic, the author of the letter said they were willing to take a polygraph exam "to prove that I am being truthful."
The letter writer explained their motivations as a desire to come forward after watch Papadopoulos “become increasingly hostile towards those who are investigating him and his associates.”
