MSNBC's Stephanie Ruhle: Trump is on the campaign trail for one reason and it's not what you think

MSNBC's Stephanie Ruhle on Tuesday noted that Trump loves campaigning, but added that he's out there for one reason, and it has nothing to do with 'putting country or party first'.

"What is at stake for him? Why is he really out there?" Ruhle asked Bloomberg reporter Shannon Pettypiece. "The answer might rhyme with 'Schmueller.'"

Pettypiece agreed that Trump's public appearances don't "have much to do with helping the Republicans" and everything to do with protecting himself.

"If Democrats take the House, it will be a torrent of investigations," Pettypiece said. "They will have subpoena power to investigate the president, his business, his family and every cabinet member and they have said they intend to do that."

Pettypiece added that if Democrats take the Senate, Trump's domestic agenda "will grind to a halt", which is why the president is stumping relentlessly.

"Going out there and campaigning in the final days shows the White House knows how close this is," she said. "The second half of his presidency is definitely on the line, not to mention the Mueller investigation and any findings from that and what that could mean for impeachment."
