President Donald Trump got trolled by Russia at the opening of the G20 summit in Argentina on Friday, saying the real reason the president canceled a planned meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin was his "domestic problems" and not the Ukraine crisis as the White House claims.
"This morning, Russia came out and blasted back and said 'we think the reason for the cancellation is not Ukraine. we think it's because of the Michael Cohen story, the domestic issues that the president faces back home,'" reported Hallie Jackson.
Jackson added that a statement released by the administration today emphasizing the role of the Russian attacks on Ukraine was likely meant as a retort, but didn't pass the smell test.
"This appears to be a response to that since a lot of folks have been asking, 'hey, does Russia have a point here,'" Jackson said, pointing to holes in the administration's explanation. "Remember, the president only cancelled that talk with Putin when he was on Air Force One. The incident happened over the weekend when Russia seized on, fired on three Ukrainian vessels."
