‘Shame on you!’ GOP lawmaker’s meeting with far-right extremist goes off the rails after protesters interrupt
Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) was shouted down on Wednesday after he hosted an event with a far-right British extremist.
According to Daily Star, English Defence League (EDL) founder Tommy Robinson appeared via video link at a Middle East Forum event in Washington, D.C. after he failed to obtain a visa to enter the United States. The EDL is known for staging anti-Islam demonstrations that have turned violent.
Videos that were posted to Twitter showed activists interrupting the Wednesday event to shame Gosar for hosting Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon.
“Shame on you! Shame on you!” British-American activist Mikey Franklin can be heard shouting in the videos.
Gosar won re-election earlier this year after six of his siblings appeared in attack ads targeting their Republican brother.
