Veteran Republican strategist and Never-Trumper Rick Wilson joined MSNBC's Brian Williams during "The 11th Hour" on Wednesday to discuss President Donald Trump's claim that he can end the Constitutional guarantee of birthright citizenship by proclamation, instead of going through the process of amending the Constitution.
"Hey, Rick, we should point out that legal scholars we've consulted feel this is enshrined in the Constitution and is not subject to the whim of an executive order," Williams noted. "So get that on the record."
"This is just Donald Trump sort of blame-storming in advance for what's going to happen on Tuesday in the House," Wilson suggested.
"I think -- as you and I both know -- that whatever bus station he rounded up his legal scholars from, this was a fantasy that fed into the Trump base alone," he continued. "It wasn't ever something that was going to really happen, he's going to do nothing about it."
Williams asked about Trump potentially sending 15,000 troops to the southern border.
"This is using America's military might as performance art, Brian," Wilson argued. "And I think it is a sad and rather counterproductive move on his part."
"So this is just another part of this professional wrestling show that he's putting on for the country right now -- trying to ratchet up this idea that there's a brown-tide sweeping up from Mexico that's going to take everyone's jobs and kill their children and eat their dogs or something," he concluded.
