CNN's Jake Tapper's Wednesday panel pounded President Donald Trump for his nonstop efforts to build a border wall, even at the risk of a government shut down.

"Can President Trump get re-elected --can he get his base to the polls if he does not deliver on the border wall, which is arguably his biggest campaign promise?" Tapper asked.

Kristen Anderson, a Republican pollster, said that Trump is not getting his "physical" border wall because his base is also focused on border security. Trump tweeted that he wasn't building a "wall" but "artistically designed steel slats."

"Basically Trump Tower at the border," Conservative commentator Amanda Carpenter joked.

Carpenter also said that Trump not getting his wall will be problematic for his Republican base because it makes him look "weak."

"His base doesn't care whether Mexico pays for it or not or whether it looks like a fence or a Great Wall to China type of thing," she said. "What they do care about is President Trump looking weak. The Democrats just broke him before they're even sworn in to take over the House."
