Former FBI agent Frank Figliuzzi told MSNBC on Monday that former FBI director James Comey's pending testimony to the lame duck Congress is nothing but a "last ditch" political stunt meant to rile up the Republican base. The House Judiciary committee agreed to provide Comey with a transcript of the closed door interview, and will allow Comey to discuss the his testimony publicly.

"I think Jim Comey has done the right thing here," Figliuzzi said. "He's avoiding a possible contempt charge and actually calling their bluff." He also predicted Comey would be making the rounds on television news and discussing his testimony in detail.

"I think he wins in this and I think congress loses," he added. "I think what this is is a transparent attempt to inflame, antagonize, and the purpose of this is not congressional oversight, it's to ask questions that have already been asked and answered."

Figliuzzi noted the dozen of inquiries into Comey's actions, from an IG investigation, to sworn testimony, to Comey's tell-all book.

"This is all about anything but oversight," he said. "It's a last ditch attempt to wound, inflame a base and not let go of an issue that's already been addressed."
