Retired Army Lt. Col. Ralph Peters blasted former Army Lt. General Mike Flynn for "treason" for his interactions with Russians while working for Donald Trump.

"Do you view him as compromising the national security of the United States," MSNBC anchor Ari Melber asked.

"Mike Flynn betrayed his country," Peters replied. "He did a lot of good things but in the end he betrayed his country."

"It's unforgivable," he added.

"Lying to the FBI was a crime. The greater crime was what -- to me, in my view -- was treason, embracing the Russians.," Peters explained.

Peters praised Flynn's military record, but said there was a noticeable change in his behavior after he left public service.

"At that point, something appears to have snapped in Mike. He got angry and he got greedy," Peters argued.

"And then on top of that, once he connected with Trump and he started to feel the magic of the crowds cheering for him and the utterly disgraceful chants of 'lock her up' -- when I learned that Mike Flynn had been dealing with and embraced the Russians, when I heard those chants he was leading, 'lock her up,' conduct unbecoming by any standard, I don't think I've been so surprised in my lifetime by the turnabout of an individual," he explained.
