As special counsel Robert Mueller is finalizing his investigation, Russian "bots" on social media sites are spreading disinformation about the top prosecutor.
The Washington Post reported Monday evening that a recent report prepared for the Senate Intelligence Committee revealed that Mueller has become a target of the bots.
The Post reported that teams of Russian disinformation operatives created posts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social networks alleging Mueller is corrupt and that his investigation into Donald Trump's ties to Russia is based on conspiracy theories.
The report noted that Instagram proved to be a particularly lucrative platform for the bots and that one post on the platform claimed the special counsel had worked for "radical Islamic groups."
