Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg cast a deciding vote against Donald Trump’s latest asylum restrictions before going to the hospital.
NBC News’ Gary Grumbach reported the extraordinary occurrence on Twitter Friday afternoon.
Trump’s new policy, which he implemented on November 9, would temporarily bar migrants who illegally cross the southern border from seeking asylum outside of official ports of entry. The new policy was immediately blocked by a judge in California.
Correction: The original version of this story said Ginsburg voted from her hospital bed. That was based on an incorrect report from NBC News.
Clarification: Pete Williams misspoke. Did not mean to suggest she literally voted from her hospital bed. Only that she voted before the surgery, knowing what was coming for her. https://t.co/32funDPtEd
