Trump is like Colonel Kurtz in 'Apocalypse Now' -- and he keeps getting 'crazier and crazier': CNN's Joe Lockhart

Former Clinton White House press secretary Joe Lockhart said on CNN that he was worried President Donald Trump's erratic behavior was only getting worse, and that he's reaching a breaking point where even congressional Republicans will have no choice but to intervene.

"It is getting crazier and crazier," he said. "Over the course of a couple of days, he blew Santa Claus's cover; he said, 'I was home alone'; he said, 'I'm signing bills' and then, when they did a closeup of the bills, it was a blank piece of paper."

Lockhart then went on to point out how remarkable it was that Trump had no one but himself to blame for the calamitous situation he's created.

"These are all problems of his own making," he said. "He's furious at the Fed for raising interest rates too fast -- he passed, in a booming economy, a deficit-busting tax cut... if he hadn't done that, the Fed wouldn't be raising rates!"

Lockhart finished off by explaining why Trump was beginning to look more and more like that of Marlon Brando's infamously maniacal Colonel Kurtz in the film "Apocalypse Now."

"He is a little bit like Col. Kurtz, surrounding himself with crazy people in the jungle, talking about crazy stuff!" he said.

"So Stephen Miller is Dennis Hopper in this scenario?" asked CNN's John Avlon.

"Exactly!" Lockhart replied.
