Trump praises Roger Stone for refusing to incriminate him: 'Some people still have guts!'

President Donald Trump on Monday praised longtime ally Roger Stone for refusing to implicate him in criminal activity.

Reacting to Stone's statement over the weekend that he would never cooperate with special counsel Robert Mueller's probe, the president lauded the longtime GOP dirty trickster for having "guts."

"This statement was recently made by Roger Stone, essentially stating that he will not be forced by a rogue and out of control prosecutor to make up lies and stories about 'President Trump,'" Trump wrote. "Nice to know that some people still have 'guts!'"

Stone has increasingly come under scrutiny from the Mueller probe for his efforts to get into contact with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to discuss hacked emails that were stolen from Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.

Stone denied that he was ever in contact with WikiLeaks during the campaign, even though in an email to an associate he bragged about having dinner with Assange and discussing the hacked emails with him. Stone has dismissed his own statements as boastful lies designed to make himself seem more important than he really was.
