President Donald Trump on Friday ordered Sen. Mitch McConnell to abolish the filibuster in order to pass funding for his border wall.
"Mitch, use the Nuclear Option and get it done!" Trump wrote on Twitter Friday. "Our Country is counting on you!"

Trump then praised Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) for pushing the end of the filibuster in a Thursday night tweet.
"Thank you Steve Daines for being willing to go with the so-called nuclear option in order to win on DESPERATELY NEEDED Border Security!" Trump wrote. "Have my total support."

McConnell so far has been wary of completely abolishing the filibuster, although he did abolish the filibuster for Supreme Court nominees after Senate Democrats refused to back cloture for a vote on Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch.
McConnell has argued to Trump that ending the filibuster would be dangerous because it would make it easier for Democrats to jam through bills such as Medicare for All and the Green New Deal if they didn't have to worry about clearing a 60-vote threshold for cloture.
