Recalling his time as a U.S. Attorney, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R) called out President Donald Trump's legal team, saying they are over their heads and have made matters worse for the president for not reining him in as he is being investigated by the Justice Department.

Appearing on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Christie called Trump's team, "c-level," while also taking a shot at Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner for offering bad legal advice to the president.

Addressing Trump's inner circle once believing Robert Mueller's investigation would be over quickly, Christie's relayed private conversations he had with Trump and his team, including Kushner.

"I said this is far from over, I said 'I hate to tell you this, but we're going to be here on Valentine's Day of 2018 still talking about Russia and Jared said to me you're crazy," Christie explained. "I said, 'No, I'm not crazy. I've run these investigations before and I'm telling you that I know Bob Mueller and I know this Justice Department, and I'm just telling you that it's going to take a long time.'"

"Now we're getting up to Valentine's Day 2019 and we're still talking about it," Christie continued. "So what I was trying to say to the president that day was don't be fooled by what these lawyers are telling you. When you hire a C-level legal team, which is what he did, that gives you c-level legal advice."

"I said listen, there's no ways you can make the investigation shorter, but there's a lot of ways you can make it longer," he added.
