The Arizona Interscholastic Association fired a basketball official for reportedly making a racist remark prior to a Tuesday night game, the Arizona Daily Star reported Wednesday.

Before the game at Walden Grove High School in Sahuarita, the official reportedly asked visiting Pueblo High School's coach if his student athletes brought their green cards.

Herman House, the director of interscholastics for the Tucson Unified School District, reported the smear on Wednesday.

Patricia Coleman, the mother of one of the Pueblo students, said, "most of the boys had never witnessed or been involved in this type of racism."

"Breaks my heart that they had to be a part of this ugliness," she added.
