Jerry Falwell Jr. slams homeless in bonkers interview praising Trump: ‘A poor person never gave anyone a job’

Published

on

Liberty University president Jerry Falwell Jr. on Tuesday gave an interview to the Washington Post about the relationship between evangelical Christians and President Donald Trump — and it’s loaded with logical howlers, factual inaccuracies, and just plain gibberish.

Below are some of the craziest quotes from Fallwell Jr.’s interview.

1.) Among other things, Falwell claims that he doesn’t care about Trump’s rampant immorality because he was elected to help trim the national debt — even though the deficit has actually exploded under Trump’s watch.

“What earns him my support is his business acumen,” Falwell tells the Post. “Our country was so deep in debt and so mismanaged by career politicians that we needed someone who was not a career politician, but someone who’d been successful in business to run the country like a business. That’s the reason I supported him.”

Reporter Joe Heim then pointed out that the deficit had gone up in each of Trump’s first two years — and Falwell simply brushed it off by saying that “he had no choice because Obama had decimated the military, and it had to be rebuilt.”

2.) Falwell says that there is literally nothing Trump can do that will make him drop his support.

When asked by Heim if there are any red lines — such as, say, shooting someone in the head out in public — that would make him drop Trump, Falwell simply said, “No.”

When Heim pressed Falwell to elaborate, the Libery University president said, “I can’t imagine him doing anything that’s not good for the country.”

3.) Falwell explains that rich people are the people doing the most to enact God’s will on Earth because they create jobs..

“Why have Americans been able to do more to help people in need around the world than any other country in history?” he asked rhetorically. “It’s because of free enterprise, freedom, ingenuity, entrepreneurism and wealth. A poor person never gave anyone a job.”

4.) Falwell says that evangelicals who don’t support Trump are the real immoral ones.

“It may be immoral for them not to support him, because he’s got African American employment to record highs, Hispanic employment to record highs,” Falwell said. “They need to look at what the president did for the poor.”

During his first two years, Trump championed legislation that would have stripped health insurance from tens of millions of Americans, and has also signed off on work requirements for Medicaid that have blocked otherwise eligible people from getting access to health care. The president’s administration is also rolling back environmental protections to allow coal plants to pump more mercury into the air.

Melania Trump was ripped on Monday for pushing her signature "Be Best" campaign against bullying while her husband, President Donald Trump, runs concentration camps for children along the southern border.

"Looking forward to collaborating with all of our #BeBest Ambassadors. Delighted to be working alongside so many people both inside and outside of government to better the lives of children everywhere!" Melania Trump tweeted Monday.

The response was some of the harshest since she wore an "I Don't Care" jacked to visit the border.

Donald Trump on the US-Mexico Border

On Sunday, Austin Savage and five of his friends huddled into an SUV and went to an El Paso Target, loading up on diapers, wipes, soaps and toys.

About $340 later, the group headed to a Border Patrol facility holding migrant children in nearby Clint with the goal of donating their goods. Savage said he and his friends had read an article from The New York Times detailing chaos, sickness and filth in the overcrowded facility, and they wanted to help.

But when they arrived, they found that the lobby was closed. The few Border Patrol agents — Savage said there were between eight and 10 of them — moving in and out of a parking facility ignored them.

Michael Flynn’s legal team is making bizarre moves — signaling he’s still hoping for a Trump pardon

Published

on

When disgraced former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn recently hired a new firebrand lawyer, Sidney Powell, it suggested he could be maneuvering to change his legal strategy.

And on Monday, new signs emerged that his legal team is looking to shake things up. Flynn had another status hearing on Monday before Judge Emmet Sullivan as he awaits sentencing for charges brought by former Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

In the hearing on Monday, Powell, who had been publicly critical of the Russia investigation before joining Flynn’s team, requested a security clearance to review documents in the case. This was a surprising move, because the government said that there was no classified information in the documents it had turned over to the defense.

 ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

Trump endorses killing journalists, like Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi. Online ad networks are now targeting sites that cover acts of violence against dissidents, LGBTQ people and people of color.
