President Donald Trump on Wednesday falsely claimed that Mexico was already paying for his proposed border wall -- even though the president is holding the government hostage until House Democrats agree to give him $5 billion to fund its construction.
This contradictory messaging proved too much for Fox host Dagen McDowell, who told Fox News' "Outnumbered" that she can't believe Trump is keeping the government closed in the name of wall funding while at the same time claiming Mexico has already given him the needed money.
"I want to know why in the name of Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy are you talking about Mexico is paying for it?" she asked incredulously. "Well then why did you shut the government down? In terms of the political messaging, this makes zero sense to me."
McDowell went on to claim that Trump is "politically savvy" and was trying to avoid having to admit that he's about to break his promise to his supporters about getting Mexico to pay for the wall, just as former President George H.W. Bush broke his promise to not raise taxes during his presidency.
