Roger Stone arrested on seven counts in Mueller probe of Russian collusion

Trump ally Roger Stone was arrested on Friday morning and charged with one count of obstruction of justice, five counts of false statements, and one count of witness tampering.

According to Politico reporter Kyle Cheney, Mueller is alleging that one of Stone’s false statements came while under oath in front of the House Intelligence Committee, which sent special counsel Robert Mueller a transcript of Stone’s testimony late last year.

In the indictment, Mueller alleges that Stone in the summer of 2016 talked with “senior members of the Trump campaign” about damaging information that WikiLeaks had obtained on Democratic presidential nominee.

Mueller also alleges that Stone was saying both publicly and privately that he had been in direct contact with WikiLeaks despite the fact that he has since insisted that he never once communicated with the organization about the 2016 campaign.

Stone then lied about his interactions with WikiLeaks to the House Intelligence Committee and also “attempted to persuade a witness to provide false testimony to and withhold pertinent information from the investigations,” Mueller alleges.

The indictment also claims that Stone regularly talked with Trump campaign officials about upcoming WikiLeaks information drops of former Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta’s hacked emails.

“On or about October 7, 2016, [WikiLeaks] released the first set of emails stolen from the Clinton Campaign chairman,” the indictment claims. “Shortly after [the] release, an associate of the high-ranking Trump Campaign official sent a text message to Stone that read ‘well done.’ In subsequent conversations with senior Trump Campaign officials, STONE claimed credit for having correctly predicted the October 7, 2016 release.”

The 2020 general election campaign between two top parties has unofficially been set.

"Joe Biden formally clinched the Democratic presidential nomination Friday, setting him up for a bruising challenge to President Donald Trump that will play out against the unprecedented backdrop of a pandemic, economic collapse and civil unrest," the AP reported Friday. "The former vice president has effectively been his party’s leader since his last challenger in the Democratic primary, Bernie Sanders, ended his campaign in April. But Biden pulled together the 1,991 delegates needed to become the nominee after seven states and the District of Columbia held presidential primaries Tuesday."

On Friday, President Donald Trump retweeted a video from right-wing commentator Glenn Beck, which appeared to question the wisdom of calling George Floyd a "hero" — and concurring with Black GOP commentator Candace Owens, who said it "sickens me" he is being "held up as a martyr."
