'Step down': Michigan voter gives Trump brutal advice on CNN for improving his poll numbers
Mark Astor, a Macomb County Democratic voter, talks with CNN (Screen cap).

CNN this week went to Macomb County, a notorious bellwether county in Michigan that twice voted for former President Barack Obama before swinging to President Donald Trump in 2016, to see how locals were reacting to Trump's government shutdown.

While CNN's Vanessa Yurkevich found that some Trump supporters were sticking with the president, she found one who told her that he didn't approve of Trump shutting down the government to get money for his proposed border wall.

"I think it's a waste of time and money," Trump supporter Troy Sears told her. "It's causing way more problems than it's helping."

Yurkevich also talked with Mark Astor, a Macomb County Democratic voter whom she asked if Trump could do anything to make him see the president in a better light.

"Step down," Astor replied.

Astor also encouraged House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to not give in to Trump's border wall demands.

"All along he was saying, you know, 'Mexico's going to pay for it,'" he said. "Have at it, bud! Have at it!"
