Here's the real reason why Trump won't stop shutdown: source

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump held a meeting in the situation room with incoming Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to negotiate about the border wall.

Trump has forced a government shutdown because he did not get approved for billions in funding for his border wall.

The meeting, which was intended for negotiating, made little progress and the government shut down will continue with no end in sight.

Trump has failed to give a clear answer to why he won't stop the shutdown, but a source familiar to the meeting revealed that Trump is holding out so that he won't look "foolish."

Schumer asked Trump publically why he would not stop the shutdown, and even then he failed to give a direct answer.

“I asked him directly,” Schumer told the reporters. “I said, ‘Mr. President, give me one good reason why you should continue your shutdown of the eight cabinet departments while we are debating our differences on homeland security?’ He could not give a good answer.”

However, Julie Davis from the New York Times tweeted that a source leaked Trump's apparently true answer.

"[A] source familiar says POTUS responded: 'I would look foolish if I did that,'" she tweeted.
