Donald Trump is itching to end his border wall fight so he can get back to Mar-a-Lago, the New York Times reported Friday night.
According to his allies who spoke with the Times' Maggie Haberman and Annie Karni, the president is "eager" to spend time at his "Winter White House" in Palm Beach, Florida.
The report noted that the president "resented the advice of aides to deliver an Oval Office address and travel to Texas on Thursday" and has "few options" left to end the shutdown without compromising.
Former White House aides who spoke with the Times said Trump is more focused on the "optics" of the border wall fight that resulted in what is now the longest government shutdown in US history than actually building it.
Those same aides noted that the president did not fight for his wall in the first two years of his presidency.
