During a speech at Purdue University on Thursday, Starbucks CEO and possible presidential candidate Howard Schultz implored his audience to clap for him -- and reminded Twitter users of another presidential candidate who made almost the exact same gaffe in 2016.
"If I choose to run, I promise, I will absolutely release my tax returns," Schultz said. There was a silent pause from the audience, at which point the coffee mogul told the crowd, "you can clap now."
He again prompted the audience to clap when discussing the cost of education at the university.
Twitter users noted almost immediately that Schultz telling his crowd they can clap for him sounded remarkably like a moment when then-GOP presidential candidate Jeb Bush said "please clap" to a group he was speaking to at a campaign event on February 2, 2016.
"Howard Schultz is the new Jeb!" one user tweeted, referencing the one-word title from the younger Bush's campaign.
"The speed at which campaigns go through their life cycle now is amazing," another user noted. "Schultz already at 'Full Jeb.'"
