Newt Gingrich buried in ridicule after excusing Trump's laziness by comparing him to Winston Churchill

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich took to Twitter on Monday to make excuses for President Donald Trump's extremely light schedule that mostly consists of "executive time" where he watches cable news and vents to friends about the bad coverage he receives.

Gingrich not only said it was wrong to criticize Trump as lazy, he also argued that the president was very similar to former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

"The ignorance of history of the current elites is pathetic," Gingrich wrote. "Churchill slept late, worked late, took a nap every afternoon (getting into his pajamas)."

Gingrich's historical comparison of Trump and Churchill did not impress many of his followers, who proceeded to bury him in ridicule -- check out some of the reactions below.
