Dave Evans, a political reporter for WABC-TV in New York, is facing serious blowback on social media after he questioned Sen. Kamala Harris' (D-CA) decision to eat fried chicken and waffles during a lunch with the Rev. Al Sharpton.
While posting a photo of Harris and Sharpton eating together on his Twitter account, Evans seemed to call out Harris for her culinary choices.
"Chicken & waffles. Seriously? For Kamala Harris & toast & bananas for [Sharpton]," he wrote.
Many of Evans' followers thought he was making a snide remark about Harris's race, as a common racial stereotype of black people is that they love to eat fried chicken and waffles.
As of this writing, Evans' tweet had a ratio of 963 responses to just 33 likes, a sure sign that his tweet caused offense, whether he intended to or not.
