'If stupidity were a crime -- Roger Stone would be in jail for the rest of his life': CNN legal analyst
Republican operative Roger Stone (Facebook)

Longtime Trump associate and political operative Roger Stone is headed to federal court Thursday afternoon.

He will face Judge Amy Berman Jackson under circumstances that are less than ideal for Stone: on Monday, the self-described "dirty trickster" posted an Instagram image of Jackson's head with a cross-hairs next to it. He also smeared her as biased for having "incarcerated Paul Manafort" and called Special Counsel Robert Mueller a "deep state hit man."

It's not clear how the judge will react. She has several options at her disposal, including putting Stone in jail for violating his bail by what could be construed as an act of intimidation.

Legal analyst Jack Quinn appeared on CNN Thursday and pointed out that while it's not clear how the judge will react, the Instagram move was not smart on Stone's part.

"At a minimum he's going to get a tongue lashing," Quinn said. "I said earlier if stupidity were a crime, Roger would be in jail for the rest of his life. This was just monumentally dumb on his part."
