Trump has had an unprecedented relationship with North Korea leader Kim Jong Un, and counterterrorism analyst Phil Mudd called out the president for showing an unpleasant amount of "flattery" towards Jong Un.

Trump has arrived for his second summit with Jong Un in Vietnam taking place from February 27-28.

On Tuesday, during CNN's Jake Tapper's show, Mudd said that Trump should focus more on having a business relationship with Jong Un than a love relationship.

"What do you make of the flattery approach from President Trump?" Tapper asked Mudd.

"At the end of the day, this is not a love story this is a business deal," Mudd said.

"We are in a difficult place," Mudd said. "Both sides have to get something. When are they going to say something we don't know? That will start to tell me if they are ready to make a deal."

"We've got a long way to go," he concluded.
