President Donald Trump on Saturday suggested in a tweet that he directed Congressional Republicans to vote as they wish on whether special counsel Robert Mueller's report should be publicly released — and that the whole thing is a "game."
"I told leadership to let all Republicans vote for transparency," the president tweeted. "Makes us all look good and doesn’t matter. Play along with the game!"
Immediately after Trump posted the tweet, Twitter users unloaded on him.
"Pretends he controls all Republican votes in the House, calls the Mueller investigation a 'game,'" Mother Jones national affairs editor Mark Follman tweeted.
Even conservative Washington Examiner pundit Byron York was critical of the president's messaging.
"Think there really is unanimity, or near-unanimity, on issue of Mueller transparency," York tweeted. "Also, not a good idea to get in way of 420-0 vote."
