Sarah Sanders squirms and lies after the Today Show points out Mueller’s report ‘does not exonerate’ Trump

Published

on

Sarah Huckabee Sanders appeared on NBC’s “Today” show Monday morning and lied about the findings of Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s report, as encapsulated into a four-page summary by President Donald Trump‘s hand-picked Attorney General.

Guthrie told Huckabee Sanders that the Special Counsel’s report specifically states it “does not exonerate” President Trump on questions of obstruction of justice.

“It is a complete and total exoneration,” Huckabee Sanders falsely claimed.

The White House press secretary is not an attorney and has no legal background (she holds a BA from Arkansas’ Ouachita Baptist University), yet felt comfortable cloaking her arguments through a supposed legal lens.

“In the legal community, when you can’t convict somebody on something, you’re legally exonerating them,” Huckabee Sanders falsely told NBC’s Savannah Guthrie.

That was not her only inaccurate remark.

“Because the Special Counsel said they couldn’t make a decision one way or the other, the way the process works is that they leave that up to the Attorney General.”

As Guthrie noted, the Attorney General who was picked by the president had denounced the Mueller investigation about eight months ago when he wrote an unsolicited 19-page memo to the DOJ stating it is almost impossible for a president to obstruct justice.

Guthrie noted that Barr “took it upon himself to issue a legal conclusion,” on the Mueller report, adding that “some critics are saying, ‘Wait a minute – is this on the level? He did it in 48 hours and he wrote a memo 8 months ago in June of last year stating there wasn’t an obstruction of justice case.'”

Huckabee Sanders grasped for a response, stammering and insisting Barr did not make a “snap judgment,” while invoking supposed Democrats who support Barr.

ran warned Sunday that the fate of a UK-flagged tanker it seized in the Gulf depends on an investigation, as Britain prepared for an emergency security meeting on Tehran's action.

Iranian authorities impounded the Stena Impero with 23 crew members aboard off the port of Bandar Abbas after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps seized it Friday in the highly sensitive Strait of Hormuz.

Video footage released by Iran showed the Stena Impero tanker being surrounded by speedboats before troops in balaclavas descend a rope from a helicopter onto the vessel.

In an audio recording of a radio exchange, an Iranian officer can be heard ordering the tanker to change course "immediately".

For Cubans — a day at the beach is no easy task

Published

Cuba's constitution guarantees its people access to its beaches, but many locals are unable to enjoy the island's pristine white sands and crystal clear blue waters.

While foreign tourists flock to such paradisiacal Havana sites as Varadero, which was this year named the second most-beautiful beach in the world by American travel website TripAdvisor, Cubans are typically found elsewhere.

"Not many tourists come here," said 43-year-old Rey Gonzalez, who was enjoying a day at Guanabo, a beach east of the capital.

Guanabo's sand isn't as white and the water not quite as clear as Varadero's, but that mattered little to Gonzalez, who was there with his family.
