An alleged domestic terror plot aimed at “multiple targets” in Southern California was foiled by authorities, federal and local law enforcement agencies said Monday.

The Los Angeles Times reported that a suspect, who was described as a U.S. military veteran, was caught in an online sting operation and arrested by the FBI.

"It sounds like he tried to connect with other like-minded folks online," a source told The Los Angeles Times.

The suspect "allegedly discussed wanting to kill LAPD officers and set off explosives at the Santa Monica Pier and on LA freeways," according to NBC Los Angeles. He also allegedly voiced support for the Islamic State.

The announcement comes less than 48 hours after a gunman killed one person and left three others injured in a shooting inside a San Diego County synagogue.
