On Thursday, President Donald Trump held a press conference in which he claimed that tariffs on cars will curb immigration and drug trafficking.

He further insisted that if tariffs don't work, he'd shut down the Southwest border.

On Fox News, panelists noted that the President's aggressive stance towards Mexico would just end up hurting American automakers.

"Threatening tariff on automobile imports for the reason it steps all over the trade agreement his administration, although not ratified yet, it steps all over the trade agreement they negotiated," said Dagen McDowell.

"By the way, how many Mexican car makers do you know? There aren't any. It is General Motors, an American company, that he's talking about," she added.

"General Motors more than anybody."
