Perry, a former governor of Texas, is one of the few remaining Cabinet secretaries who has served in Trump's administration since the beginning, despite controversy over the fact that he didn't initially know the department he was taking over was in charge of storing nuclear weapons.

Perry's reported imminent departure comes shortly after Trump instituted a massive shakeup at the Department of Homeland Security, dismissing Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen and several high-ranking officials at the agency.
