President Donald Trump continued to rail against House Democrats for demanding his tax returns and has held on to his fight to keep them private.
According to CNN, Trump is prepared to take the battle over his tax returns all the way to the Supreme Court. One official told CNN that it is a hill that Trump is willing to die on.
"This is a hill and people would be willing to die on it," the official said told CNN.
Former federal prosecutor Ali Honig, Ali Honig said that Trump would be smart to pick his fights wisely.
"The president and his attorneys are willing to take this all the way to the tip top court in the land. What does that signal to you?" CNN 's Brooke Baldwin asked.
"It signals they are dug in. And they said this is a hill we're 'willing to die on.' That is a dumb hill to die on," Honig said.
"Legally, first of all, there is this obscure provision of the IRS law that said upon request from the Ways and Means Committee the IRS 'shall furnish' -- you don't need a law degree. It means shall. It doesn't mean you may or in your discretion, it means must furnish," he said.
"It's unprecedented because every other president dating back to Richard Nixon has voluntarily turned them over. Politically if you have bad news, just rip the bandage off. I don't know what the end game is."
