Trump-defender flips on the president and hammers him for calling Democrats ‘treasonous’

On Thursday, Trump defender Steve Cortes ripped the president for calling Democrats “treasonous.”

During an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Cortes said that it was “out of line” for Trump to claim that Democrats are treasonous for their “open border mindset.”

“I think what the Democrats are doing with the Border is TREASONOUS. Their Open Border mindset is putting our Country at risk. Will not let this happen!” Trump tweeted.

“We should just pause to once again say this is not normal. It’s not normal for any president of any party at any time to accuse the members of the opposition party of treason,” Cooper said.

Adding, “Three crimes are mentioned in the Constitution, counterfeiting, piracy, and treason. Treason is the only one explicitly defined because of how serious it is. It’s not a term to be thrown around lightly or even in anger, especially when the accuser happens to hold the highest office in the land.”

“If President Obama had called Republicans treasonous wouldn’t Republicans understandably be very upset?” Cooper asked.

“I totally agree. You know how much I strenuously support the agenda of this president, but I’m no sycophant, and I don’t like this rhetoric at all,” Cortes said.

“It’s over the top and uncalled for. He shouldn’t be using a word like treasonous,” Cortes said. “I totally  concur with the president on his policies on the border and totally  concur that the Democrats do favor open borders, but let’s leave treason as a term out of it.”

“We don’t need to reach always for the most extreme language possible to describe our political opponents,” Cortes said.

Republican lawmakers ask judge to destroy smoking gun documents proving GOP’s white supremacy

Republicans on Monday sought a court order to block damning documents from being used against them in a lawsuit.

"North Carolina Republican lawmakers on Monday asked a court to make sure the files of the now-deceased GOP strategist Tom Hofeller are destroyed, or at least kept secret, instead of being used in a high-profile gerrymandering lawsuit," the Raleigh News & Observer reported.

"The filing comes after the groups behind the lawsuit, including Common Cause, accused Republican lawmakers of making false statements in court in a previous gerrymandering case, when the state’s 2011 maps were ruled unconstitutional," the newspaper noted. "That blockbuster accusation made national headlines and was, it said, based on Hofeller’s files which had been secret until recently."

Trump angrily demands newspaper reveal unnamed sources behind bombshell report on his Russia policy

President Donald Trump on Monday evening again lashed out at The New York Times for reporting on his Russia policy.

"The story in The New York Times about the U.S. escalating attacks on Russia’s power grid is fake news, and the failing New York Times knows it," Trump argued in a tweet sent after 10 p.m.

"They should immediately release their sources which, if they exist at all, which I doubt, are phony," he continued.

"Times must be held fully accountable," he demanded.
