An anonymous Republican lawmaker bitterly complained to Washington Post reporter Robert Costa on Monday that Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) is making his life harder by discussing President Donald Trump's impeachable conduct.

Shortly after Amash posted a blistering takedown of his own party's talking points against impeaching Trump, a House Republican told Costa that he is "the opposite of enthused about Rep. Amash's statements" -- a view that he says "is widely shared in the conference."

CNBC's John Harwood then asked Costa if the lawmaker gave any justification for being upset at Amash.

"Few House Republicans want to get out on a limb against POTUS," Costa replied. "The way he explained it: people have grumbles about certain aspects of the president's conduct, but don't ever want to go to war with the person who they think is key to their own reelection."
