Anyone who even slightly expected Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) to back Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) in his suggestion that Donald Trump committed impeachable offenses during a CNN appearance on Sunday morning likely came away disappointed.
During an appearance on Jake Tapper’s “State of the Union,” the straitlaced former Republican presidential nominee couldn’t even bring himself to say Trump has “disgraced” the office of the presidency by only being willing to say he found Trump’s actions “troublesome.”
Twitter users were quick to light Romney up as a “lapdog” — and worse.
You can see a sampling below along with a clip from CNN:
"An impeachment call is something that not just relates to the law but considers practicality and politics. And the American people just aren't there," says Sen. @MittRomney following the Mueller report.

Anyone looking for Mitt Romney to demonstrate that he has a backbone is looking for the wrong thing in the wrong place. Mitt is a spineless jellyfish who blows whichever way the Republican winds are blowing. https://t.co/vScpi1CBOZ

Everyone thought Mitt Romney was going to be one that holds Trump accountable, but just like the others he’s feeding Biscuits of bullshit and lies to.

Mitt Romney in @CNNSotu basically saying, “Hell yeah, Trump’s a crook but I’m not sure you could prove it in court so I’m not going to stick my neck out. I’m skeered of that MAGA crowd.”
