Texas church convinces man to shame himself for being gay -- then tries to cover it up after backlash

A Texas church baptized a man who held a sign attributing his former sexuality to Satan.

As the Friendly Atheist reports, Gateway Fellowship church in Kerrville, Texas, accepted a man into their congregation after he posted a picture of himself holding a sign that said, "I believed a lie from the Devil that I was gay until… " followed by a picture with a sign that read "God showed me His Gateway!!!” In that image, the man and fellow church goers throw their hands up in victory.

The post was deleted after it generated outrage on social media.

Afterwards the man posted a video trying to explain his decision to identify as straight. But as the Friendly Atheist points out, the man shouldn't be blamed for whatever his own personal journey might be. But the Church itself is promoting the dangerous idea that being gay is wrong and somehow linked to Satan.

"Blame Gateway Fellowship Church and others like it for perpetuating this lie about homosexuality and giving this poor guy praise for believing it," the Friendly Atheist concludes.
