President Donald Trump on Friday continued his fixation with preventing forest fires by "cleaning" the floors of forests.
Trump last year drew widespread ridicule for falsely claiming that Finland is able to prevent its forests from catching fire because they regularly "take care of the floors, you know, the floors of the forest."
Even though the Finnish President Sauli Niinistö tried to set Trump straight by explaining that his country prevents forest fires by deploying "good monitoring system and network," the president has continued to talk about the need to "clean" forests.
In January, for instance, Trump said he was cutting off all federal disaster money to the state of California unless Gov. Gavin Newsom started taking better care of his state's forest floors.
And on Friday, Trump once again bashed Newsom for not taking his advice on forest management.
"Talk about forests, clean up your forests, you won't have forest fires!" Trump said, referring to a conversation he'd had with Newsom. "He blames it on global warming! I said, no, trying cleaning the floor of the forest a little bit, so you don't have four feet of leaves and broken trees... it's called 'forest management.'"
