Fox News host to Ben Carson: What does ‘go back to your country’ mean?

Published

Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson on Wednesday suggested that President Donald Trump was talking about unemployment when he told four U.S. congresswomen of color to “go back” to their countries.

In an interview on Fox News, host Sandra Smith asked Carson what Trump meant when he attacked Democratic Reps. Ilhan Omar (MN), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY), Ayanna Pressley (MA) and Rashida Tlaib (MI) on Twitter.

“Did you view the president’s tweets as racist?” Smith wondered.

“I have the advantage of knowing the president very well,” Carson replied. “And he’s not a racist. And his comments are not racist. But he loves the country very much and he has the feeling that those that represent the country should love it as well.”

Smith noted that three of the congresswomen were born in the U.S. and all four are U.S. citizens.

“The president suggested that they could go back to their countries,” Smith continued. “What did the president mean because he’s not taking back anything he said.”

“I think you can see what the president means by looking at his accomplishments,” Carson opined. “Under this president… you see low unemployment — record low for blacks, for Hispanics, for all the demographics of our nation.”

“I think we should pay a lot more attention to what [the president is] doing than what anybody is saying,” he added.

Political allies of President Donald Trump have been reading a bizarre fascist manifesto that encourages young right-wing men to join the military and then use the knowledge in combat they gain to prepare for military rule.

Politico reports that former Trump White House officials who have read the book do not approve of its conclusions but they do believe it presents several intriguing ideas and they think it's gained real traction among many of the disaffected young white men who voted for the president in 2016.

"It’s still a cult book,” said a former Trump White House official. "If you’re a young person, intelligent, adjacent in some way to the right, it’s very likely you would have heard of it."

WATCH: Trump’s trade advisor goes live on Fox Business — and immediately gets blindsided by China’s retaliation

President Donald Trump's chief economic adviser got a rude welcome on the Fox Business Network on Friday morning as host Maria Bartiromo dropped a bomb on him and informed him that China had just smacked the U.S. with an unexpected round of tariffs.

Assistant to the President, and Director of Trade and Manufacturing Policy Peter Navarro -- called by some the president's economic Rasputin -- seemed genuinely stunned by the new $75 billion tariffs in retaliation for the president's trade war.

"We have breaking news, China is announcing new tariff rates to apply and as a result, this market has completely reversed course," Bartiromo stated while displaying a ticker showing the stock market plunging.

A Michigan candidate derailed a political forum by putting a shockingly racist spin on President Donald Trump's new campaign slogan.

The president has updated his "Make America Great Again" slogan from 2016 to "Keep America Great," which he unveiled last week with new merchandise, and a city council candidate in a state he won three years ago echoed the theme in an explicitly racist remark, reported the Times Herald.
