Paris (AFP) - Long-dormant viruses brought back to life; the resurgence of deadly and disfiguring smallpox; a dengue or zika "season" in Europe. These could be disaster movie storylines, but they are also serious and increasingly plausible scenarios of epidemics unleashed by global warming, scientists say.The COVID-19 pandemic that has swept the globe and claimed over 760,000 lives so far almost certainly came from a wild bat, highlighting the danger of humanity's constant encroachment on the planet's dwindling wild spaces. But the expanding ecological footprint of our species could trigger epid...
On Tuesday, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) continued to slam Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) after a back-and-forth for most of the day that began with Greene saying that Mace was "trash".
The latest salvo began on the Guy Benson Show, where Mace tore into Greene as an unserious legislator who is only in it for fame and attention.
“She’s a grifter, she lies to grift and it’s not okay, she is pulling the wool over so many eyes, so many vulnerable people," said Mace. "Lying to them like she’s fighting for them. She has no power, she has. She’s done nothing for America or the American people since she got elected to Congress. She doesn’t have the ability to. Meanwhile, I’m passing legislation to help gold star families. I’m passing legislation that helps our national security... Like, this is the work that I was hired to do, and I’m doing that work. She hasn’t done a damn thing since she got into office.”
She followed this up with a simple four-word message for Greene when pressed by reporters:
Nancy Mace to reporters just now: “All I can say to Marjorie Taylor Greene is ‘bless her fucking heart.’”— Kyle Cheney (@Kyle Cheney) 1638316721
The feud began as a result of Mace attacking Greene's colleague, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), for her Islamophobic jokes about Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) being a suicide bomber.
Greene has made waves recently for issuing demands to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to secure her vote for him as speaker, including the expulsion from the caucus of all Republicans who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump.
Former President Donald Trump is going after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson over the UK's push to become the world's leader in wind power.
“He’s wrong, Boris is wrong if he’s going heavy into wind," Trump told Brexit Party Leader Nigel Farage in an interview that's scheduled to air on GB News on Wednesday, according to a report from the UK's Press Association.
Trump, who reportedly did the interview from Florida on Monday, went on to say that Johnson is "making a big mistake," falsely claiming that wind power is the "most expensive form of energy."
“I think wind is, I think it’s ridiculous," Trump said.
“Remember, every 10 years, you have to replace those monsters," he added, referring to wind turbines. "And a lot of times they don’t bother. You know what they do? They just let them rot. They kill all the birds, they are so bad.”
Trump said he still likes Johnson but accused him of becoming more "liberal."
“But I’ll tell you with energy, I’m surprised that he would allow that to happen because you have one of the most beautiful countries in the world," Trump said. “And you’re destroying it with all these wind turbines all over the place.”
Trump has long been a critic of wind power, but a recent Associated Press Fact Check found many of his claims to be false or exaggerated.
For example, according to the U.S. Energy Department’s Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, “Land-based utility-scale wind is one of the lowest-priced energy sources available today," the AP reported.
Meanwhile, wind turbines account for only one in 14,000 bird deaths in North America annually, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Wind turbines kill an average of 230,000 birds a year, compared to 599 million that perish due to glass windows in buildings.
'You will not live much longer': Ilhan Omar plays threatening voicemail she received in wake of call with Boebert
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) on Tuesday played a threatening voicemail that she received from an apparent supporter of Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), whom she has been feuding with for the last several days.
At a press event, Omar again condemned Boebert for likening her to a suicide bomber, and then played audio of the voicemail that she received shortly after her ill-fated call with Boebert earlier this week.
"I would love the opportunity to take you off the face of the f*cking Earth, you Muslim piece of sh*t jihadist," the caller said. "We know what you are, you're a f*cking traitor. You will not live much longer, I can almost guarantee you that."
Last week, unearthed video showed Boebert likening Omar to a suicide bomber in front of cheering supporters, while also labeling Omar as a member of the "jihad squad."
Tensions in Congress have been running high all year, starting with the January 6th riots by Trump supporters at the United States Capitol and continuing through to Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) earlier this month posting a cartoon on social media that depicted him murdering Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-MN).
