HARRISBURG, Pa. — Al Schmidt, a Republican former Philadelphia elections official who challenged election denialism in 2020 and testified before the Jan. 6 congressional committee, is officially Pennsylvania’s secretary of state. Speaking to MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace on "Deadline White House" Thursday, President Joe Biden was finishing up after chatting about the late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ). Wallace, who served in the George W. Bush administration, left to work on McCain's campaign in 2008.

The two reminisced about their memories of him and that he was a Republican from a different time. The two shook hands to signal the end of the interview, but it prompted Biden to start talking about the new world of the GOP, which Wallace left several years ago.

DeSantis relentlessly mocked with photoshopped images as green screen beach pic resurfaces

The Independent reported an old photo of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) – along with the relentless mockery that went with it – has resurfaced.

The 2015 photo of DeSantis and his wife Casey seemingly walking on a beach without making footprints in the sand did the rounds again on social media this week, first re-posted by the activist account PatriotTakes. The photo comes from a Flickr account called “DeSantis for Senate” and has a few photos of the couple talking to voters as well as then-Congressman DeSantis with various backgrounds.

Revealed: Mike Pence received more than $500K from an offshoot of controversial Unification Church

Presidential candidate Mike Pence received $550,000 last year for speaking to an offshoot of the Unification Church, whose current leader is bitterly opposed to her gun-loving, Trump-supporting son who was close enough to the Jan. 6 insurrection to be tear-gassed.

Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis has received a "cease and desist" letter from an Iowa Republican leader after he was accused of busing in supporters to an Iowa event.

The Messenger reported DeSantis received the "extraordinary" letter from Muscatine County's GOP demanding that the "Never Back Down PAC cease and desist all attempts to contact and collaborate with the Muscatine County Republican Party of Iowa."

Trump campaign hires conspiracy theorist as 'town captain' in New Hampshire

A local figure well-known in New Hampshire as “an outspoken anti-vaccination activist and conspiracy theory proponent has been selected by the Trump campaign as 2024 “town captain” in Loudon, N.H., the New Hampshire Journal reported Tuesday.

Terese Bastarache (formerly known as Terese Grinnell) was selected “on the eve of Bastarache’s criminal trial over charges of disrupting a state meeting having been dropped by the state, the Journal reported.

“Today, President Donald J. Trump announced his initial New Hampshire Grassroots Leadership Team with over 150 dedicated activists and organizers throughout the Granite State’s ten counties,” the campaign said in a press release.

Failed gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake resorted to imitating former president Donald Trump and bending over backward to be his vice presidential nominee when she lost her own election for governor of Arizona, according to an LA Times columnist.

Some of the Republican Party's leading 2024 presidential hopefuls are scheduled to speak this week at this week's "Joyful Warriors" summit in Philadelphia, hosted by Moms for Liberty, an organization designated by the Southern Poverty Law Center as an anti-government extremist group. Scheduled speakers include Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis Nikki Haley, Asa Hutchinson, and Vivek Ramaswamy.

"Moms for Liberty is a far-right organization that engages in anti-student inclusion activities and self-identifies as part of the modern parental rights movement. The group grew out of opposition to public health regulations for COVID-19, opposes LGBTQ+ and racially inclusive school curriculum, and has advocated books bans," says the Southern Poverty Law Center.
