Political analyst Jon Lovett, co-host of "Pod Save America" and former President Barack Obama's speechwriter, criticized President Donald Trump's Great American State Fair.
On "The Daily Beast Podcast" on Sunday with host Joanna Coles, Lovett called it a "dark moment" that overshadows the nation's 250th birthday celebration.
Lovett noted low attendance amid an East Coast heatwave and multiple non-functioning attractions. He detailed numerous operational failures, including a non-working Ferris wheel, a green Reflecting Pool, melting ice cream, and sparse crowds.
"It’s a rare moment where you could have actually had a beautiful, like, American patriotic celebration. I’ll be cringe and say that I’m sad that we don’t get to have that,” Lovett admitted.
He noted states were right to cancel participation, as "Nobody wants to be associated with this guy."
"Like this is a dark moment, and it is a shame that we have fallen so low that this is what it would look like to forever, for how we marked an important milestone in the history of the country,” Lovett added.
