Republican Senate candidate David McCormick is traveling around Pennsylvania in hopes of convincing the state's voters that he's one of them.
Democrats have portrayed McCormick as a wealthy outsider who doesn't even live in the state, and although the hedge fund CEO did buy a $2.8 million home in Pittsburgh before his unsuccessful GOP Senate primary campaign two years ago, he also rents a $16 million mansion in Connecticut, reported The Philadelphia Inquirer.
“I believe my odds will improve if I have a chance to connect with people across the commonwealth,” McCormick said. “I won’t be able to shake every hand but I want … every community to be able to say, ‘Hey, this guy was here.’”
McCormick hasn't talked to voters much about his time at Bridgewater Associates, a global hedge fund that's heavily invested in China, but he doesn't shy away from his and his wife's wealth.
“I’m more successful than I ever thought I’d be,” he said in an interview. “Dina’s incredibly successful and I’m not ashamed of that … I’m going to embrace that and not gonna be shy about it.”

McCormick is remarried to former Trump administration officialDina Powell, a former partner at Goldman Sachs, and an analysis by the newspaper estimated their combined assets between $116 million and $290 million, if not more. That can lead to some awkward moments on the campaign trial.
The GOP candidate visited some veterans sipping coffee in Palmerton, where a former Marine asked him about high gas prices.
“Dina’s on the board of Exxon,” McCormick said, gesturing to his wife.
The comment was immediately ridiculed online.
"So out of touch," wrote an X user called Moonbeamer. And SomethingFischy wrote: "Vote Dave McCormick for Senate! His wife isn’t just on board with more drilling. She’s literally 'on the board of Exxon.'"
