Christians might see The Bible as the written word of God, but the candidate conservatives have chosen, Donald Trump, doesn't think it's as good as the books that bear his name.
In an interview with A.J. Calloway of "Extra," Trump was asked what his favorite books are. The best books are his books, of course, The Art of the Deal and Surviving at the Top, NY Magazine noted.
That's not what Trump said last year, however, when he was courting Evangelical supporters. "Hold that book up," Trump told an audience member at a Birch Run, Michigan fundraiser in Aug, 2013. "That's my second favorite book of all time. You know what my favorite is?" he asked. "The Bible!" he said and gave an enthusiastic thumbs-up. "Nothing beats the Bible, not even The Art of the Deal. Not even close."
Trump doesn’t exactly have the best history when it comes to talking to those with Christian faith. He couldn’t name any verse in the Bible when asked about it, though he thinks it’s a really great movie. Eventually, he came up . Then there was the time Trump never heard of II Corinthians, infuriated some religious leaders and tried to claim he was a “big league” believer in God. Trump's claims of Christianity even prompted "Morning Joe" to create a supercut of the Republican candidate's religious flubs.
Trump has been endorsed by devout Seventh-day Adventist Ben Carson and former Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) heads his religious council. Focus on the Family founder James Dobson and Family Research Council head, Tony Perkins are among the religious leaders that are standing with Trump.
